Artist statement: The San Diego Women's Choir was founded in 1987 as a non-profit organization that encourages women's creativity, celebrates diversity, and inspires social action. The lesbian-identified group invites women of all ethnicities, ages, and sexual orientations to join. Our mission is to educate the world about alternative lifestyles and entertain it with beautiful, quality music. The chorus blends four-part harmony of many individual voices to create one musical voice. At the same time, we have a powerful figurative voice informing the world through music that addresses such issues as human rights, love, world peace, religious freedom, environmental harmony, inclusion and cultural diversity. We celebrate women because they are capable, talented and wonderful, no matter what occupation, social standing, sexual orientation, or race they represent. I joined the chorus in January and could think of no better personal representation of "With One Voice" than the astounding influence my fellow singers have had on my life.
