Quilt Me a Story
Artist statement: We can learn many things about a quilt by viewing it. Simply looking at it, though, does not tell us the whole story. Listening to the maker does. Capturing the quiltmaker's own words Quilters' S.O.S. - Save Our Stories, a project of The Alliance for American Quilts , has been saving and sharing the voice of quiltmaking one quiltmaker at a time since 1999. Its goal is to create a broadly accessible body of information about quiltmaking with recorded interviews and to make them available to anyone on the Internet. The project's more than 800 interviews have been conducted by more than 150 volunteers include quiltmakers of every type, from those who simply dabble to those who are professionals, and include quiltmakers across the U.S. and beyond its borders. These interviews show us the complexity and diversity of quiltmakers and their quilts. They give voice and validation to the people making quilts today. |
