Artist statement: My mother, who is 91, is on a limited income and is disappointed that she cannot donate much money to the many charities in need. So she has created a way to make a significant contribution to her community. She makes a quilt and raffles it to raise funds for her chosen charity, patiently spending several days selling tickets herself at local businesses, since few people are willing to put time into selling them. Last year she raised $1700 for the local food bank with her quilt. She is trying for greater success this year. The contrast in this quilt is purposely low key, since the many volunteers like Mom around the country do their good works by working quietly in the background without calling attention to themselves. They just get the job done.
