Artist statement: I teach English as a Second Language as a volunteer. My former student was a native of Uzbeckistan, who immigrated to Turkey, and then came to the United States. She spoke six languages - including the Russian and Turkish on the left and at the top of the quilt. She was trying to learn English as well. The words on the quilt are "Communication" in Russian, Turkish and American English. |
