Nesting
Kristi Burt

Artist statement: This small quilt represents 2 local people who have devoted much time and space to saving birds. This couple takes in injured, deformed and un-adoptable birds. They do this out of love. They pay all the costs such as food, vet bills, and permits. They currently have about 12 cockatiels, 8 ducks, 10 chickens, finch, lovebirds and doves. The bigger birds are housed in a building that resembles the home the owners live in. However, they have a heated pond in the winter and clean nesting materials provided each day. The smaller birds live inside and have housing that is clean and dry and stocked with food and water at all times. They have received calls from the local humane society to take in birds that they have found. They have also referred people to them to have an unwanted bird adopted. "Nesting" was made to honor Jim and Debbie Way.
