Color Blocks #29
Artist statement: A little over three years ago, two women decided they wanted to raise funds for the American Cancer Society through the Relay for Life. Nancy Spiegel Rosman was the chair for the Relay for Life in her town. Her sister, Virginia Spiegel, decided she would assist marginally in raising funds through the sale of a few fiber postcards. The first $90 grew to $160,000 in a little over three years through the tireless effort of these two women. They have been assisted by many fiber artists who rallied to the challenge to produce both fiber postcards and later, collages, to aid in this effort. Karey Bresenhan became the honorary chair of Fiberart for a Cause when she set up a large space and provided further support and sales of the postcards at the International Quilt Festival in Houston in 2006 and also in 2007. My hat is off to these women who have done so much to encourage others to produce artwork and have provided the means to help support the American Cancer Society. |
