Every day when I go out there, I find someone new is there. Slug, snail, and beetles are not as welcome as snake, spider and bird. The plants that grace the garden are lovely, including the weeds. The middle section was a log cabin at one time. I dedicate this quilt to all the pioneer women who went forward with their families to the untamed Frontiers. The red in the center is meant to celebrate the heart and hearth inside the home. A log cabin is certainly a symbol today of a very simple yet very tough life back then. My belief is that the world is one big neighborhood with everyone wanting the same things in life, regardless of what part of the world they live in, what their homes look like, what color their skin. Sadly, Natasha developed cancer and left us in 2006. As you walk through the neighborhood, you can look into the backyards and sneak a peak into the private lives of the individuals who live in the apartments by the type of clothes hung on their line.  I remember hanging out the clothes in the middle of winter to dry and pulling the dried stiff clothes in from the kitchen window. She was the best, most well behaved dog. Three years ago she got cancer and was gone within days. Three months later my step-father was diagnosed with the same type and he also died right away. It was only appropriate that we buried Belle's ashes with him. We can't see another golden without thinking of her. I never let my children get a dog because I didn't want more work to do. Like a good grandma, I gave in to my granddaughter when she was staying with me. We got him from the Humane Society. He has been a wonderful pet and is part of the family.
